Amazônia Real (Real Amazonia) is an award-winning, non-profit, independent, investigative digital media outlet founded by women journalists Kátia Brasil and Elaíze Farias in 2013 and based in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.
Articles, and audio and video series focus on the Environment, Indigenous Peoples, Agrarian Issues, Politics, the Economy & Business, and Culture in the Amazon region. Amazônia Real has a network of journalists and photographers in Amazonas, Acre, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, Roraima, Pará e Tocantins states, paid via bursaries, as well as collaborators in Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro states, and a distinguished line-up of specialist contributors.

Articles in Amazônia Real are generally written in Portuguese and designed to tell the stories about those who matter: the Amazonian indigenous peoples and traditional communities, the voices of whom are mostly silenced and marginalised by traditional media. Amazônia Real is accessed internationally and can be (imperfectly, but reasonably) translated on-the-fly to various languages via a translate button at the bottom right of the page. Read more about Amazônia Real here (in Portuguese). Articles are available under the Creative Commons – Attribution 4.0 International license.
Amazônia Real has a strict donor vetting policy so as to maintain editorial independence. You can support Amazônia Real by reading here (in English) and contributing to their crowdfunding campaign, or by donating directly.
